Through ASTM D471 testing, our outsole materials are immersed in specific liquids to measure durability and resistance. The results confirm that our products maintain their integrity under pressure, delivering reliability, safety, and confidence where it matters most. 

Constructed or manufactured with electric shock-resisting soles and heels capable of withstanding an application of 18,000 volts (root mean square (RMS) value) at 60 Hz for 1 minute, with no current flow or current leakage in excess of 1.0 milliamperes under dry conditions.

Through IOS 20344:2021 hot contact testing, our footwear is exposed to high-temperature surfaces to ensure it won't fail when it matters most. The test validates that soles resist burning, cracking, or structural breakdown, showcasing durability, safety, and confidence in the toughest environments.

Footwear for men must retain 1” clearance after an impact of 75 sq. foot pounds of force (~101.7J), i.e., a 50 lb. weight dropped, reaching 117.9 +/- 2.4” per second velocity at impact 3.5” in from the toe of the footwear (3.375” on women’s).

I-met2® patented technology

Exclusively from Thorogood^® footwear. The polymer composite found in the I-MET2^® absorbs and deflects impact to the instep of the foot. Like the original I-MET^®, I-MET2^® is an internal, invisible Metatarsal Guard that is completely integrated with the protective toe cap.

These styles are 100% non-metallic utilizing composite safety toes and non-metallic hardware (eyelets). These features will not activate security screening devices.

Our outsoles are tested to ASTM D471 standards, ensuring they resist swelling, softening, or cracking when exposed to oils. This proven resistance helps the outsole maintain its shape. 

Our footwear meets ASTM F2413 puncture resistance standards, tested to withstand 1,200 newtons of force from sharp objects underfoot. This proven protection helps keep feet safe on tough job sites. 

SD footwear will provide for a resistance of between 10 to the 6th power ohms (1megohm) and 10 to the 8th power (100 megohms) resistance when 50 volts are applied via an electrode to the hand of a person wearing the SD test samples on a conductive ground plate.

Together, these tests validate that our footwear meets ASTM F2413 standards for toe protection, delivering proven defense against both falling and crushing hazards in demanding work environments. 

[I] Impact Resistance: Footwear is tested to withstand a 75 foot-pound impact, which equals about 101.7 joules of energy. This simulates the force of a heavy object dropped on the toe. Passing this test confirms the safety toe cap absorbs and disperses energy to help protect against sudden impact injuries. 

[C] Compression Resistance: Footwear is also tested to resist 2,500 pounds of compression force, equal to roughly 11,120 newtons. This simulates the pressure of heavy rolling or static loads. Meeting this requirement ensures the toe cap maintains clearance and structural integrity under extreme weight.

To earn the Slip Resistance (SR) designation, footwear is tested on quarry tile surfaces under dry and wet conditions. To comply, it must achieve a minimum coefficient of friction (CoF) of 0.40. For customers, this means our footwear is independently verified to deliver dependable traction across a range of real-world conditions, helping workers stay steady and safe on the job.
